Surface designer Lisa Ibbetson is running mindful marbling workshops from her home studio

Lisa Ibbetson working Surface designer Lisa Ibbetson runs two-hour mindful marbling workshops from her home studio in central Brighton, where she teaches students the ancient meditative, creative art of suminagashi – Japanese ink marbling. Popular among hen parties visiting the Sussex seaside, the workshops take place in a peaceful, supportive environment where you and your best gals can let go of inhibitions and flow with your own creativity using this artistic technique.

Originally intended as a process for connecting human creativity to the flowing nature of water, suminagashi has its roots in Shintoism and uses various methods to apply inks to the water’s surface. The inks then evolve in soft, elegant forms before a mono-print can be made at a chosen point by transferring the pattern onto paper or card.

Maximum capacity at the studio is seven at £40 per head, but larger hen parties can be accommodated at the local Hanover Community Centre or at a venue of your choice.
