April/May 2022

April/May 2022

Who else can’t believe it’s springtime already? It’s such a special time of year and in 2022 we all get to appreciate it so much more given the last two we’ve spent locked up! This issue we’ve got the usual blend of wedspiration from real weddings and shoots, to expert advice and ideas including a look into the world of wedding transport. We’ve also got some oh-so chic ideas for fab finishing touches to complete the look of your day.

In our own wedding world here at CMW towers, bride Melissa has been turning her attention to her best gals and we’ve now got our dresses, if not in our hands then on order. It was a bumpy ride, but thanks to Melissa’s unending patience, we got there. We’re now looking at the even more fun stuff such as accessories, shoes, hair and make-up, which has led myself, my fellow bridesmaids and the bride herself to ponder the matter of just whose job it is to foot the bill for the glam? This in no small part is due to the fact none of us seem able to get the lovely Melissa to take one single penny from us towards it. So, when Fragrance Direct told me they’d teamed up with wedding planner Hannah Rose to discuss just this matter, I was all ears!

Thinking about the glam bill, Fragrance Direct asked Hannah whether it was nearlyweds’ responsibility to pay for everyone or just themselves? She answered unequivocally, “Definitely everyone. If they’ve asked for people to be part of their day, the majority of the time this will fall to the couple to pay. Otherwise, their loved ones may be put off joining the wedding party. Some bridesmaids and groomsmen might be happy to contribute, but it’s always encouraged that the couple plan this into their budget and offer to pay for the basics such as hair and make-up if they want them to have it done. The cost will vary depending on the hair stylist and make-up artist, but I’d advise to allocate a minimum of £150-£200 per person for anyone who isn’t the bride or groom.” So, there we have it. We shall immediately cease arguing with the bride and accept her kindness gracefully.

I’ll leave you now to enjoy this issue and don’t forget if you’d like to see your own wedding day gracing the pages of Your Sussex Wedding, get in touch with us via www.your-sussex.wedding/get-involved

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Alexander House

A renovated Jacobean mansion, Alexander House is a luxurious countryside retreat set in 120 acres of West Sussex countryside, just outside East Grinstead. The gorgeous grounds feature terraces, lawns and woodland with plenty of pretty spots for photographs.

The Shelley and Wakehurst Suite is located on the ground floor with direct access to a private terrace, garden and gazebo and can accommodate 90 of your nearest and dearest. With the same capacity, the private garden and gazebo can also host your “I dos,” if you prefer to be in the open air.

The Churchill Suite, located in the main building with views over the South Lawn is perfect for an intimate ceremony with 16 guests. Meanwhile, The Asquith Suite is ideal for a small ceremony with 10 guests, and boasts a fireplace, high ceilings and views over the South Lawn. The same spaces are also available for receptions. The Shelley and Wakehurst Suite can be divided with the former accommodating 90 and the latter accommodating 30. For the evening the suites can host up to 200 guests. The more intimate spaces, The Churchill and Asquith can still seat the same numbers (16 and 10 respectively).

Looking to tie the knot outside? Make sure it's legal!

Here at County Wedding Magazines HQ we welcome any changes in the law that allow people to marry more freely. Following the Government's recent announcement that they'll permanently be making outdoor marriages across the UK legal, following temporary legislation introduced during the pandemic, this is great news to the thousands of couples who have creative outdoor ideas for their weddings. However, there is still a criteria which couples must meet in order for a wedding ceremony to be legally valid, and it's important that couples don't get caught out. Barrister Kate Van Rol at 4PB advises on how to navigate the legality of getting married in an outdoor setting.
