February/March 2019

Let me begin by offering a warm welcome to all the new readers buzzing from recent engagements. Congratulations! The start of planning your wedding is a thrilling place to be. For many, though, I’ve no doubt 2019 signalled a new milestone as you mark off another year in the countdown to the big day, and some of you can officially say “I’m getting married… this year!” But if the excitement in saying so abates and gives way to panic that there’s still so much to do, don’t worry – Your Sussex Wedding is here to help with oodles of inspiration. Check out our gorgeous couples’ real weddings on pages 36, 45, 51 and 58. If these pages tell you anything, it’s that your wedding day is no one’s but yours, so plan for you and your personality as a couple. Tradition is great, but it shouldn’t be restrictive.

Time is flying by and I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day. In recognition of the occasion, in this issue's Hot Topic (page 89), we talk wedding day touches to bring that added air of romance. Love also pervades our glorious regional shoots, found on pages 65, 77 and 94, which are filled with fashion, flowers and fun.

For the dear readers who are fast approaching W-day, having chosen the dress, you’ll likely be turning your attention to the finer details, such as your jewellery and accessories. So we’ve consulted the county’s jewellers for their top tips on making the ideal selections for the perfect statement, just turn to page 81.

Happy planning everyone!

Buxted Park Hotel

Reached by a tree-lined sweeping drive, this impressive Grade II Georgian country house, has a host of period features, including huge fireplaces, elegant cornicing, crystal chandeliers and sash windows.

Nestled within the stunning Ashdown Forest parkland in 312 private acres of Sussex parkland, Buxted Park is a Palladian-style mansion with stone pillars, creating a classically romantic backdrop to your wedding photos. The large stone patio at the back of the house boasts far-reaching views across the picturesque lake, ancient oak tress and countryside beyond. Adjacent to the house lie pretty manicured gardens and the ornamental fish pond.

Located at the heart of the hotel, The Coat of Arms lounge features an original grand working fireplace that dates back to the 18th century, with direct access to a private patio, making it an ideal setting for your ceremony. Alternatively, enjoy open-air “I dos” on the garden steps leading to the lounge. The lawn is set up with traditional chairs either side of the red carpet, leading to the impressive stone portico.

The magnificent Orangery overlooks the main hotel terrace and formal lawn, with views down to the fishing lake. An original part of the Georgian building, the Orangery’s tall glass ceiling allows streams of natural daylight to flood on to your nuptials. It can also play host to your wedding breakfast.

Designed in a traditional style with beautiful furnishings, the Library is conveniently located near the Coat of Arms Lounge and Crystal Bar, ideal for intimate ceremonies.

The impressive Ballroom is the state wedding room, featuring five empire chandeliers and views over the estate to create the perfect setting for your romantic wedding.
