December/January 2021/2022

It dawned on me just recently that I have just six months left until I transform from editor into bridesmaid extraordinaire! Is anyone else freaked out by how quickly time passes en route to W-day? Despite spending my days telling all of you lovely people how to plan, I have very much not practised what I’ve preached and am now panicking about getting into shape. So, it’s a good job indeed that I’m not the bride, who fortunately is literally the most organised person I’ve ever met. That being said, the bride tribe (plus groom) recently decided to hit a wedding show at the venue, hosted by our sister company County Wedding Events, looking for finishing touches and bridesmaid dresses. While I’ve attended many a wedding fair in my time with my professional hat on, nothing beats the excitement of experiencing one from the other side of the fence. So, to help you get the most out of your next visit, I’ve compiled my top three tips.

1. Pre-register. Make sure you sign up on the organisers website. CWE is offering timed entry slots at the moment to keep you all safe and allow you to enjoy your browsing comfortably.

2. Be prepared. Find out who’s exhibiting beforehand and make up a hit list of the suppliers you want to check out. You can usually find this info on the event’s website, but if not there’ll likely be show guide available, so grab one when you arrive and settle down with a cuppa or glass of bubbly before you venture any further.

3. Snap happy. Make sure your smart phone is fully charged and be ready to get as many pics as you can of the things you love. Big events can be a little daunting and the last thing you want is to get home and forget where you saw that incredible cake.

And now, without further ado, I bring you the latest issue of Your Sussex Wedding – we have a world of wedspiration waiting for you as always.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Brickwall House

Brickwall House is a stylish exclusive-use wedding venue in Northiam, East Sussex. The Grade I listed Jacobean manor house, rich in charming period features boasts 17th- and 18th-century interiors. Dating back to 1617 it was the family home of the Frewen family for over 300 years. Conveniently located in the beautiful Wealden countryside Brickwall House is close to Hastings, Ashford and Tunbridge Wells as well as the smaller historical towns of Rye, Battle and Tenterden.

The gardens are a real treasure. The site features the oldest walled gardens in Sussex and includes an arboretum and the Lady Frewen bluebell walk. Also to be found is a Jacobean bowling green and topiary chess garden, which backs onto 100 acres of ancient deer park. To the rear of the house are formal gardens where the beds are planted with over a hundred varieties of plant species, providing an array of colour throughout the year. Here, 300-year-old magnolia trees and 400-year-old mulberry trees can be found alongside passion flowers, lavender and roses.

The venue is licensed for ceremonies in three areas. The grand and stylish Drawing Room fills with sunlight and looks out onto the gardens. It can seat 90 of your loved ones. Outdoors, you can tie the knot on the spacious south lawns, which are wrapped in the secret walled garden and lined with lollipop trees. There’s ample space for 150 guests to join you as you say “I do.” The Topiary Chess Garden is the third option, it too can host 150 for the vows.

The Drawing Room with its opulent chandelier and golden-framed historical paintings, is ideal for intimate celebrations and can seat 50 for the wedding breakfast. For a bigger bash, the Garden Marquee is available and can host 150 diners with more evening guests. A modern space, its panoramic windows fill it with light, and it’s located within touching distance of the gorgeous gardens.
