February/March 2019

Let me begin by offering a warm welcome to all the new readers buzzing from Christmas and New Year engagements. Congratulations! The start of planning your wedding is a thrilling place to be. For many, though, I’ve no doubt 2019 signals a new milestone as you mark off another year in the countdown to the big day, and some of you can officially say “I’m getting married… this year!” But if the excitement in saying so abates and gives way to panic that there’s still so much to do, don’t worry – Your Sussex Wedding is here to help with oodles of inspiration. Check out our gorgeous couples’ real weddings on pages 36, 45, 51 and 58. If these pages tell you anything, it’s that your wedding day is no one’s but yours, so plan for you and your personality as a couple. Tradition is great, but it shouldn’t be restrictive.

What’s more, it’s Valentine’s Day, people! So in this issue’s Hot Topic (page 89), we talk wedding day touches to bring that added air of romance. Love also pervades our glorious regional shoots, found on pages 65, 77 and 94, which are filled with fashion, flowers and fun.

For the dear readers who are fast approaching W-day, having chosen the dress, you’ll likely be turning your attention to the finer details, such as your jewellery and accessories. So we’ve consulted the county’s jewellers for their top tips on making the ideal selections for the perfect statement, just turn to page 81.

Happy planning everyone!

The Cherry Barn

A renovated 17th-century barn, this venue has kept its rustic charm while still offering all the modern conveniences to keep you and your guests comfortable. The Cherry Barn provides a blank canvas on which to paint the wedding day of your dreams – from boho to classic, festival to luxury.

Located on a 400-acre working farm in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it’s just a seven-minute drive from the beautiful Medieval town of Rye. If you want a romantic break together from all the hubbub of the day, venture up the rustic drive – you’ll find yourselves at the top of the hill with incredible views across Rye and the English Channel. We hear you can even see France on a clear day!

The handy preparation room can be used as a bridal suite, crèche or lounge area. Later on in the evening, guests can enjoy the firepit on the patio while watching the sun set.

Ceremonies can take place inside The Cherry Barn or outside in the oak-framed gazebo. If you’re using a celebrant rather than a registrar, you may wish to exchange vows beneath an oak tree, in the woodland or wherever your imagination takes you within the parameters of the farm. The venue is also within walking distance of a pretty Norman church in Peasmarsh.

Your reception, accompanied by 150 loved ones, will take place underneath the 17th-century barn beams, although use of the garden is worth consideration in finer weather.
