April/May 2022

Who else can’t believe it’s springtime already? It’s such a special time of year and in 2022 we all get to appreciate it so much more given the last two we’ve spent locked up! This issue we’ve got the usual blend of wedspiration from real weddings and shoots, to expert advice and ideas including a look into the world of wedding transport. We’ve also got some oh-so chic ideas for fab finishing touches to complete the look of your day.

In our own wedding world here at CMW towers, bride Melissa has been turning her attention to her best gals and we’ve now got our dresses, if not in our hands then on order. It was a bumpy ride, but thanks to Melissa’s unending patience, we got there. We’re now looking at the even more fun stuff such as accessories, shoes, hair and make-up, which has led myself, my fellow bridesmaids and the bride herself to ponder the matter of just whose job it is to foot the bill for the glam? This in no small part is due to the fact none of us seem able to get the lovely Melissa to take one single penny from us towards it. So, when Fragrance Direct told me they’d teamed up with wedding planner Hannah Rose to discuss just this matter, I was all ears!

Thinking about the glam bill, Fragrance Direct asked Hannah whether it was nearlyweds’ responsibility to pay for everyone or just themselves? She answered unequivocally, “Definitely everyone. If they’ve asked for people to be part of their day, the majority of the time this will fall to the couple to pay. Otherwise, their loved ones may be put off joining the wedding party. Some bridesmaids and groomsmen might be happy to contribute, but it’s always encouraged that the couple plan this into their budget and offer to pay for the basics such as hair and make-up if they want them to have it done. The cost will vary depending on the hair stylist and make-up artist, but I’d advise to allocate a minimum of £150-£200 per person for anyone who isn’t the bride or groom.” So, there we have it. We shall immediately cease arguing with the bride and accept her kindness gracefully.

I’ll leave you now to enjoy this issue and don’t forget if you’d like to see your own wedding day gracing the pages of Your Sussex Wedding, get in touch with us via www.your-sussex.wedding/get-involved

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Royal Pavilion

This breathtaking former royal Regency palace offers a unique venue in the heart of Brighton and Hove’s cultural quarter. Today it can be enjoyed in its original 1823 splendour, with Indian architecture contrasting with exotic interiors inspired by China. One of the most exotically beautiful buildings in Britain it was designed to entice, enrapture and enchant the great, good and grand of George IV’s court.

The Royal Pavilion’s garden is one of the few fully-restored Regency examples in the country. Flowers emulate jewels against the flourishing evergreens that frame striking views of the palace, creating a picture-perfect backdrop for your wedding photography.

The Red Drawing Room can host up to 44 for the ceremony. Retaining much of George IV’s 1820s decorative scheme including dragon wallpaper and palm tree pillars, it’s located on the ground floor and not open to the general public. The Music Room, available for evening hire only, can host 90 for the “I dos” and is one of the most spectacular rooms in the palace.

The King William IV Room is home to receptions here. Situated on the first floor above the Red Drawing Room, it offers an elegant setting for both day and evening receptions. With exquisite hand-painted Chinese-style wallpaper and hanging lanterns, it also benefits from a private entrance, its own lobby and a caterers kitchen. The space can host 80 for a drinks reception, 70 for a standing buffet and 60 for a seated wedding breakfast.

Ten jewellery superstitions to know before your big day

Certain jewellery worn on your wedding day can bring bad luck to brides and grooms, according to experts. Ethical jewellery experts Ingle & Rhode have gathered some of the most unusual superstitions surrounding accessories that you might not know about. From necklaces to bracelets, lots of jewellery has hidden meanings that are considered lucky or unlucky, depending on what it is and when it is worn. Some jewellery, like rosary beads, are considered good luck, whereas wearing pearls on your wedding day suggests that you will have tears in your marriage.
