Recently the team at Your Sussex Wedding was lucky enough to attend the launch party of the newly refurbished Balcombe Place near Haywards Heath, in aid of three terrific causes: Help for Heroes, Chestnut Tree House and Kent, Surrey, Sussex Air Ambulance.
Set in landscaped gardens with far-reaching views of the Sussex Downs, the house has been restored in recent months by the descendants of the second owners, Lord and Lady Denman, and has come full circle to its original purpose as a perfect place for entertainment and gatherings of all kinds.
Intrepid explorers, we were permitted a sneak peak of the freshly renovated bedrooms across the two upper floors, and what a treat it was. The bride has the pick of four en suite bedrooms for her bridal suite – a tough choice! Beautifully and sympathetically restored to suit the period of the manor, these rooms are spacious, warm and welcoming. There are plans for the refurbishment of a further 10 bedrooms in phases over the next two years which will benefit wedding party guests.
Bespoke wedding choices don’t end there; downstairs there are several glorious spaces available, enabling couples to create a dream combination suites for nuptials and receptions.
For a wedding breakfast, followed by dancing, we suggest the incredible wood-panelled Music Room, where we sat down for a bite to eat featuring a minstrel’s gallery spanning one side.
Balcombe Place can cater for 20 to 120 people for a sit-down meal in the main reception rooms of the house; additional guests, up to 400, can be catered for in a marquee on the lawn.
