From the team behind Kin House comes Limekiln, a new private-hire events venue in Sussex, opening its doors in April 2024.

Designed with the same hallmarks of considered interior design, service, curated activities and signature luxuries, Limekiln provides space for guests to gather and tell a story – hosting everything from private lunches, weddings, and wild parties to team away days and creative showcases.

Set against a backdrop of Sussex countryside, Limekiln is surrounded by 60 acres of private, re-naturalised land including a nine-hole golf course and ancient woodland, from which the lodge takes its name.

DESIGN

Working in collaboration with Red Deer, the creative studio behind Lina Stores and St John, the design for Limekiln reflects a deep respect for nature and local culture. Drawing inspiration from the Bloomsbury group's artwork and Sussex's rural architecture, the spaces are a testament to luxury and thoughtful craftsmanship.

Explaining the design, architect Lionel Real de Azúa says, "We aimed to pay homage to the diverse English rural vernaculars, integrating barn-like architectural features while introducing domestic nuances unique to Sussex. This concept is enriched by influences from the Bloomsbury group, resonating with the cultural heritage of nearby Charleston House."

PARTY

Each room in Limekiln tells its own story. Guests are welcomed inside to Kiln Bar; a large central lounge with a showstopping floor-to-ceiling fireplace clad in individually hand painted and fired tiles by bespoke ceramicist, Emma Louise Payne. Considered the heart of the lodge, the interior design features a large central bar and a mix of antique furniture, combined with colourful Ceraudo armchairs, Nicola Harding sofas and bespoke fabrics from Pierre Frey’s Le Manach Collection.

Next door, the Green Club contrasts to create a low-ceiling intimate speakeasy, combining opulent chandeliers, oak cobbled flooring, antique mirrored walls and sumptuous velvet curtains. A space for after hours drinks, cosy private dining and late-night dancing lounge.

For grander affairs, the Alder Room and Poplar Hall stand ready. These expansive spaces cater to diverse needs, from weddings to corporate events, featuring Sussex-inspired design elements and the capacity to host up to 300 guests.

The beautiful Poplar Hall can host up to 200 for a seated meal, and 300 for drinks receptions. It features elegant chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling metal doors, niches along the walls, and a striking bespoke hand-painted frieze, designed by Sussex-based artist, Tess Newall.

Perfect for ceremonies and presentations, the Alder Room has a capacity for 140-person dining and 200 seated; showcasing a barn-inspired design, with herringbone flooring and lightweight linen curtains to add a soft, romantic touch to the occasion.

PAMPER

The Apartment merges relaxation and functionality into a multi-level retreat that makes an ideal place to relax and get ready before an event. The space is kitted out with a hair-washing station and stunning large round bath and rain shower, where guests can get pampered and schedule in pre-dinner treatments. Peach tile ‘Morocco Salt’ flooring and linen pendant lights adorn the room, while a sumptuous seating nook offers a place to relax, with help-yourself snack baskets and a drinks fridge.

Tucked away on the top floor, you’ll also find a multipurpose dressing room and breakout space, with wooden exposed beams, Bien Fait ‘Duncan’ printed wallpaper and a handmade mahogany rose window, looking out across the Sussex countryside.

FEAST

Limekiln has partnered with the best caterers in the UK – Kalm Kitchen, Peardrop, Social Pantry, Host and Spook – who will bring a diverse range of menus and dining options to create a feast for all kinds of parties and occasions. Their food philosophy is simple: delicious, British ingredients and unfussy cooking that celebrates the joy of eating.

EXPERIENCES

The lodge is perfectly situated for outdoor activities and dining, against a backdrop of woodland and rolling Sussex countryside. Picnic lunches, barbecues and lawn games, winter walks, hot toddies by the fire, or a round of golf on the private nine-hole course are just a few of the things to keep guests busy.

Whether you would like to take over the lodge for a day, a morning or an evening, the team on hand have over 10 years’ experience planning parties and events for any occasion.

Curated with the same hallmarks as Kin House, Limekiln will also offer creative workshops such as pottery, floristry and block-printing and wellness classes, including yoga and Pilates, meditation, forest bathing and sound baths. Arriving April 2024, Limekiln will set the bar high for all parties and events.

Women want a personal engagement ring not an expensive one

Women want a personal engagement ring not an expensive one

New research suggests a shift in how women approach one of the most traditional luxury jewellery purchases, with 75% saying they want an engagement ring to prioritise personal meaning over size or value. A study of 1,353 UK women carried out by 77 Diamonds* found that 75% say they would prioritise a personalised engagement ring over a larger or more expensive diamond. What seems to stand out is not a complete rejection of convention, but rather a rebalancing and reassessment of value. 59% of women say their preference still leans towards traditional ready-made ring designs, and only 11% want an entirely custom-made piece But the emotional drive behind preferences and purchasing decisions does appear to be changing with 30% expressing a desire for rings that carry additional meaning through small modifications, engravings or design adjustments.

One in seven couples choose sleep over sex on their wedding night

One in seven couples choose sleep over sex on their wedding night

As the UK's spring and summer wedding season begins, new research by Mattress Online suggests the traditional idea of a passion-filled wedding night doesn't always match reality, with one in six couples (15%) saying they did not have sex after their big day. To understand why, the bed experts also asked survey respondents what their reasoning was behind this. They also provided additional insight on the idea of the "wedding night" from Relationship Expert, Jenni Trent Hughes. The findings show that exhaustion was by far the most common factor, with more than two in five (44%) of couples saying they were simply too tired after the celebrations. As weddings often involve early starts, long days, emotional highs, and late nights, rest is a more realistic priority than romance once newlyweds are in bed.
