How to save money on your next wedding gift

Receiving an invitation to a wedding is always an exciting time. However, deciding what gift to buy the couple, and especially how much to spend, can be daunting - now more so than ever due to the increased cost of living.

Data from VoucherCodes.co.uk reveals guests will spend an average of £113.39 for each gift they buy when attending a wedding which, for many of us, is a hefty amount.

Anita Naik, Savings Expert at the UK's most trusted savings site VoucherCodes.co.uk, has some great tips on how to save money on your upcoming wedding gifts without skimping on the sentiment:

Consider what type of invitation you have
Although many couples do not expect a wedding present, tradition still dictates that gift giving is an important part of attending a wedding. Considering what type of invitation you have can help you work out what your budget should be to avoid overspending. For example, it's recommended evening only guests spend between £30 and £50 on the happy couple, however full day guests are expected to spend around £100 per guest1.

Team up with friends
If you are attending a wedding solo rather than as part of a couple, it can be difficult to know how much to spend or give, especially if the newlyweds have asked for a monetary contribution towards their honeymoon. It's always worth linking up with other guests you're friendly with to purchase a bigger gift where you can. This is particularly handy if the couple have included pricey items in their gift registry too!

Think personally
Often couples appreciate a thoughtful and/or personalised present which doesn't have to cost you the earth. A lovingly curated photo album of your friendship with the couple from Vistaprint or an illustration of the bride and groom from Not On The Highstreet will both be received well without setting you back a small fortune.

Provide a service
This one might not be applicable for everyone, but if you are a baker, painter or even graphic designer think about what services you could offer to your friends/family to help ease the cost of their big day. Depending on your skillset you could help take the pressure off their spend by offering to gift them with drawing up place cards, table plans, or even baking something for wedding favours.

Shop around
Before purchasing any gift, it's always advisable to shop around to find the best price.

VoucherCodes.co.uk has offers and/or deals from over 5,000 of the UK's biggest retailers and restaurants covering every imaginable product and service, so no matter what you are looking for, you're sure to find a great deal to help save you money. The couple will get a lovely gift, and they'll never know you saved a few pounds buying it!
