The UK is full of gorgeous locations that are perfect for weddings. From the rolling countryside to the history-rich cities, no picturesque location is out of reach for soon to be newlyweds. But, of all the places to tie the knot, where is the most popular?

New data analysed by Surrey resort and wedding venue, Foxhills, has revealed the most popular wedding locations, showing the favourite places in the UK for all types of marriage ceremonies. By analysing data on the total number of weddings in a year and scoring them by how many times they occurred in various types of marriages, the most popular wedding locations in the entire nation have been discovered.

The UK's most popular wedding locations for all types of marriage:

  1. Westminster
  2. Cornwall and Isles of Scilly
  3. Manchester
  4. Brighton and Hove
  5. Leeds
Home to Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, and Buckingham Palace, Westminster is an incredibly sought-after location that matches inner-city life with rich history of the English nation.

The most popular wedding locations for opposite-sex marriages:
  1. Cornwall and Isles of Scilly
  2. Westminster
  3. Cheshire East
  4. Birmingham
  5. Northumberland

For opposite-sex weddings, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly were clear winners, with 3.6k weddings in just one year; 1.1k more than the second-place location, Westminster, which saw 2.5k marriages. 

The most popular wedding locations for same-sex marriages:

  1. Brighton and Hove
  2. Westminster
  3. Manchester
  4. Cornwall and Isles of Scilly
  5. Islington
Overall for same-sex marriages, Brighton and Hove took the top spot. The city has one of the largest LGBTQ+ communities, with its yearly Pride Festival being both a cultural cornerstone of the calendar and an opportunity for residents to celebrate the diversity that the city is so proud of.

The most popular wedding locations for female same-sex marriages:

  1. Brighton and Hove
  2. Cornwall and Isles of Scilly
  3. Manchester
  4. Cardiff
  5. Leeds
Brighton and Hove once again found itself in the top spot for weddings, this time with female same-sex weddings. While Brighton and Hove is an LGBTQ+ landmark, it's also a vibrant and exciting place to be with its iconic pier and gorgeous seafront. Similarly, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly are also home to an incredibly picturesque and idyllic landscape.

The most popular wedding locations for male same-sex marriages:
  1. Westminster
  2. Brighton and Hove
  3. Manchester
  4. Islington
  5. Kensington and Chelsea
For male same-sex marriages, Westminster takes centre stage – the only specific type of wedding ceremony the location came first in. The iconic London borough guarantees an unforgettable day surrounded by some of the world's most recognisable and famous landmarks.
