The Pig in the South Downs is now open - take a look inside

The wait is over... the doors to THE PIG in the South Downs, Arundel, West Sussex, are open and we can't wait to show you around! This, the latest member of THE PIG family is made up of the main house originally built in the 1770s, with a collection of Garden Wagons, Field Wagons and a traditional stable yard building, all of which have been lovingly restored. The traditional greenhouse restaurant overlooks the outdoor eating terrace, with far-reaching views of the South Downs overlooking THE PIG's first vineyard.

It wouldn't be a PIG without a Kitchen Garden...

At about two acres collectively, the walled garden is steeped in history with old Espalier apple trees, vines and an orchard. The team have  introduced two large polytunnels that grow sweet peppers, tomatoes, basil; as well as serving as a nursery where they experiment with specialist plants. There's even a nuttery and mushroom house - all cared for by head kitchen gardener Alex and his team. The Victorian greenhouse is this Kitchen Garden's jewel in the crown, and has been sensitively restored while protecting the ancient vine inside.

Take a peak at the patch...

Tucked away in the small hamlet of Madehurst, high up on the South Downs, THE PIG is just a stones throw from historic Petworth, four miles from the ancient market town of Arundel, and a short drive to the yachting playground of Chichester. Head to shore and explore the craggy coastline at Seven Sisters, take a stroll along the pebbly beaches of Shoreham-by-Sea or explore the buzzy scene of Brighton.

Moody tones, cosy corners and heaps of original features and reclaimed materials...

A place to spread out and lean back. Lived-in cosy communal rooms filled with charming orginal features and hidden nooks, soft velvets and linens - all paired with open fires, gentle chatter and your drinks on their way!

From plot to plate...

Head chef Kamil and his brigade work hand-in-hand with the kitchen gardeners to create the 25 mile menu – made up of daily harvested garden produce and fresh ingredients from small West Sussex producers, farmers and fishermen, who supply anything they can't grow, produce or catch themselves.

In a first for THE PIG, 4000 vines of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier have been planted to create our very own small but perfectly formed Sussex vineyard that is in full view of the restaurant. The team are hoping for their first harvest in 2022.

Herbal healing in the Potting Sheds...

Wander through the Victorian-style greenhouse, into the Kitchen Gardens and you'll stumble across warm, rustic retreats; two Potting Shed treatment rooms are a quiet, calm space to totally unwind. It's partnered with VOYA for the treatments; a family-run brand that shares the venue's ethos of authenticity and well-being and are passionate about the provenance of their ingredients. Indulge in a range of treatments from bespoke massage, sugar scrub, rejuvenating facial or detoxifying mud wrap.

And finally, rest your head in a characterful bedroom...

The wonderfully higgledy piggledy collection of traditional brick, flint and timber clad Sussex stable yard buildings, which, together with Field Wagons, Garden Wagons and rooms in the main house provide a real range and variety of accommodation.

Fancy seeing it for yourself? Why not head there for your next date night or for a relaxing minimoon - book a table or stay overnight. There are mid-week stays available from November and weekend stays from December. Book online at www.thepighotel.com or call the reservations team on 0345 225 9494.
