Sussex is the second sunniest seaside spot to visit in August

The final Bank Holiday heatwave has been forecast for this weekend and a study has revealed the sunniest destinations to heat to in August for the last staycation of the summer. The best news is that you won't have far to travel as Sussex has made it to the second spot on the top five.

Eastbourne seafront

Looking at Met Office data from the last 50 years, the Uswitch Sunny Staycations campaign crunched the numbers to reveal the best locations to visit in the UK for the hottest weather during August. Coming in first place with an average temp of 21.5 degrees celsius was Gloucester.

Meanwhile, Sussex came in second place, with an average temperature of 20.87 and just 54.75mm of average rainfall. West Sussex had already seen 98% of its average rainfall for August, so keen sun worshippers should place their bets on a trip to Eastbourne to catch the last of the Summer sun.

Known for its pebble beaches and perfect sunsets, Eastbourne is a popular destination for staycations. Compared to any other month in the year, Eastbourne had a maximum average temperature of 21 and just 51mm of rain.

Eastbourne has seven different lidos you can choose from for a great day out with the family. There are also plenty of beaches to visit while staying in the area. We recommend Holywell beach, not only is it a quaint little cove, but the beach is also dog-friendly - perfect for those who have brought their pooch along.
