April/May 2021

So much has happened since last I spoke to you! If you’ll indulge me personally for a moment, I’d love to share my news. I turned 40. Yep, the big 4-0 and it wasn’t as scary as I thought. Despite not being able to celebrate how I’d like thanks to lockdown 3.0, it made me remember to appreciate the more valuable things in the life, such as the love of my friends and family.

Next: I’m going to be a bridesmaid. I’m giddy with excitement! Our dear Melissa Barker, fellow editor here at CWM, popped the question last month asking me if I’d accept this huge honour. I’m thrilled to be making this journey with such a dear friend and I’ll be sharing our learnings every step of the way. Despite being weddingobsessed, I’m sure we’ll make a few mistakes, enabling us to throw up a couple of warning signs for all you planning couples out there.

Finally, of course, something that affects us all: Boris’ roadmap out of this mess. Here at CMW HQ we were thrilled to see a plan back to wedding normality. It’ll be a slow process, but with everyone pulling together and staying safe it should mean we see our beloved weddings and wedding industry back in full force by the end of June. That in itself is cause for celebration.

On that note, let’s take a look at what we’ve got for you this issue as I round up my highlights for you across these two pages. We’re celebrating our 90th issue of Your Sussex Wedding with spring ahead of us – a time of al fresco “I dos,” pastel hues and beautiful blooms and there’s plenty of seasonal fabulousness on every page, so I’ll delay you no longer.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Southdowns Manor

From romantic gardens to its quintessentially English setting amongst the South Downs National Park, there are many elements that combine to make Southdowns Manor a fabulous place to celebrate your big day. The Manor is an exclusive-use venue and is fully licensed for civil ceremonies. It’s also located close to the Grade I listed St George’s Church at Trotton, which can provide traditional Anglican ceremonies. Plus, there’s a relaxing space for your morning preparations with your bride tribe and you’ll find an abundance of idyllic settings for those all-important photos.

The venue offers a choice of three reception rooms and an outside terrace. The Sussex Room is an informal area with a large bar, where your guests can meet on arrival before your vows. The room can also be used for ceremonies with up to 40 guests and it’s an ideal spot for a canapé and champagne reception. The Conservatory can also accommodate ceremonies with up to 40 guests. It’s a light, airy and versatile room boasting a beautifully romantic atmosphere. The Banqueting Suite is available for larger ceremonies and can comfortably hold 150, it’s also perfectly suited to receptions. With its starlight ceiling this room is an elegant setting for your celebrations. Finally, the Terrace is perfect for al fresco “I dos,” witnessed by 150 loved ones. Alternatively, it’s a great spot for reception drinks surrounded by the glorious South Downs.

Retreat to the city at The Marylebone, London

As the country prepared for Lockdown Part II, my husband and I managed to sneak in a last-minute escape to the city to enjoy a much-needed retreat at The Marylebone. Nestled in the hotel's super-trendy namesake neighbourhood, between the Georgian Welbeck Street and the part-pedestrianised Marylebone Lane, you're just a short walk from London's most famous Monopoly locations, from Bond Street to Mayfair.
