June/July 2025

Food is my favourite subject, so when the time comes around to put together our annual catering feature, it’s always a joy. The reason it’s so exciting to write is the sheer wealth of options available across the county, which never ceases to amaze me. When I think of wedding food, I must admit it can trigger thoughts of weddings from back in the day, where we sat down to a depressing meal of bland chicken or bust! But I soon remember, wedding catering isn’t like that anymore... mercifully! While the range of choice might make the process slightly more complicated, it is nevertheless, 100 per cent worth it. So, with the help of local caterers, we’ve put together a guide that ensures all your questions are answered.

Now, more so than say 20 or 30 years ago weddings are all about their couples. There are so many more ways to bring about the ultimate in personalisation and nowhere is this truer than in the world of wedding food. Catering companies are led by unbelievably talented chefs who can just as easily whip up your favourite dish as they can serve something from their own delicious menus. What’s more, dietaries aren’t a problem, when creative, knowledgeable minds are at the helm. So, the key takeaway here is: don’t be afraid to ask. After all, the age of the foodie is upon us, so find a caterer that suits your tastes allowing you to work with your dream team to create something your guests will be talking about for years to come.

This issue, we’re also taking a peek into the world of al fresco weddings. Our experts have helped us to create the ultimate mood board to inspire your outdoor wedding style whether it be something relaxed or more formal. So, I hope you love this issue as much as I loved putting it together, and as ever... enjoy and keeeep planning!

Buxted Park Hotel

Buxted Park Hotel, nestled in the heart of East Sussex, offers a quintessentially English setting for your big day. This Grade II listed Palladian mansion, built in 1722, is surrounded by 312 acres of lush parkland, including lakes, rolling hills, and manicured gardens. The estate features sweeping tree-lined drives, ancient oaks, and vibrant countryside hues, creating a serene atmosphere for you and your guests. What’s more, the beautiful lakes, manicured gardens and ornamental ponds provide ample opportunities for stunning wedding photography.

The Hotel’s exterior exudes timeless elegance, with romantic period features such as original fireplaces, large sash windows and decorative cornicing throughout its spacious public areas and master suites.

There’s a wide-ranging choice of locations when it comes to picking your perfect ceremony spot, both inside and al fresco. The Coat of Arms Lounge (120 guests) lies at the heart of Buxted Park, and features a grand original fireplace dating back to the 18th century. The stage is framed by ornate pillars, so you’re guaranteed to make an entrance.

The Orangery (100 guests) is an original part of the Georgian building. Bathed in daylight, it boasts stunning views over the lawns and fishing lake – perfect for bringing the outdoors in.

Every detail in The Library has been delicately designed and crafted, from the intricate stone fireplace to the authentic bookcase. You’ll feel as though you’ve been transported back to a bygone era.

The Orangery Lawn (120 guests) and Orangery Pond (120 guests) locations offer a breathtaking opportunity to hold your “I dos” surrounded by rolling lush countryside and Buxted Park as your backdrop.

Once you’re married, you’ll move through to one of two spaces for the celebrations. The Ballroom (120 guests) is a magnificent room featuring five empire chandeliers and five full-length Georgian sash windows with views over the gardens and estate. Wow your guests with its grandeur and enjoy access onto your own private terraced area. Alternatively, the stunning Orangery can host 70 nearest and dearest.

The venue offers its couples a dedicated wedding coordinator, complimentary menu tasting with wine, a master of ceremonies to guide you through the day, and use of the two getting ready rooms for the morning of your wedding. You then have a choice of further package options including upgrades and additions.
