June/July 2020

Firstly, I hope all of our readers have been keeping well during this surreal, unprecedented time. It would be hard for me to not mention the dreaded c-word, however, I admire how everyone, particularly in our wedding industry, no matter how badly they’re affected, has come together to support one another. The tide will start turning, and we can all begin to re-plan postponed weddings, re-book honeymoons and get back to our wonderful world of “I dos” – supporting local couples and businesses in finding their feet again.

In this issue we offer up some inspiration for your big days at the end of this year and beyond. So, turn to page 32 to find the start of our real weddings section. We have no less that four of our wonderful readers’ love stories to share with you this issue, so dive in and enjoy.

Food is a matter always sure to bring a smile to my face, so I hope it will do the same for you from page 57, where we talk seasonal dishes with Gastro Catering. Finally, if the lockdown has given you an even deeper appreciation for the great outdoors, head over to page 65 where our experts share their top tips on planning your very own al fresco celebration.

I hope you’ll find something to amongst these pages to bring you some cheer.

Hydro Hotel

The Hydro Hotel boasts a light and airy feel, with large open lounges and high ceilings. Opened in 1885 as a seaside retreat, the hotel has continued to welcome guests for more than 100 years. It retains its Victorian-look to this day and its Art Deco entrance and lobby are a sight to behold. Thanks to its commanding position in a quiet part of town, 120 feet above sea level, guests can benefit from the fresh sea air and find themselves captivated by the inspiring sea views.

Ceremony options include The Coastal Terrace. An outdoor open-sided stone dome located in the hotel’s private gardens, overlooking the sea, it has a capacity of 80. If you prefer to be inside, The Drawing Room is an elegant space lined with fine art, which can host 50 loved ones.

The Wedgewood Ballroom is located on the first floor and comes complete with private balcony. It’s characterised by its traditional Wedgewood-blue colour scheme and has a private bar and reception area. Here, you can accommodate 100 for the “I dos,” 70 for the wedding breakfast, and 100 for the evening bash. Further options for the celebrations include The Garden Suite, The Orangery, and The Meads Room.
