December/January 2020/2021

Let me start by wishing you all a happy new year! I hope you were able to enjoy the festive period - regardless of everything that happened last year, I refused to let it dampen my seasonal spirit! So, with that said, I’d certainly advise you not to miss our gorgeously festive styled shoot over on page 51, created by the excellent hair and make-up artist Nadia Wyatt Hair and her team.

As you may have noticed, I can’t get enough of styled shoots. Sussex’s incredible suppliers put their hearts and souls into them and the inspiration they produce is nothing short of awe-inspiring. So, we certainly have a cornucopia of treats for the eyes this issue! Be sure to stop by pages 51, 60 and 65 for 12 pages packed with big-day bliss.

Wait, the wedspiration doesn’t end there. We’ve got no less than three of our readers’ big days to share with you, allowing you to learn from those who’ve gone before. Plus, we’ve chatted to the county’s florists (page 55) and venue stylists (page 69) in a bid to aid your planning.

As you can tell I’m more than a tad excited about what we’ve got to show you this issue, so I shall stop rambling, let you dive in, and hope you enjoy this issue as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Keeeeep planning!

The Hydro Hotel

The Hydro Hotel boasts a light and airy feel, with large open lounges and high ceilings. Opened in 1885 as a seaside retreat, the hotel has continued to welcome guests for more than 100 years. It retains its Victorian look to this day and its Art Deco entrance and lobby are a sight to behold. Thanks to its commanding position in a quiet part of town, 120 feet above sea level, guests can benefit from the fresh sea air and find themselves captivated by the inspiring sea views.

Ceremony options include The Coastal Terrace, an outdoor opensided stone dome located in the hotel’s private gardens, overlooking the sea. If you prefer to be inside, The Drawing Room is an elegant space lined with fine art.

The Wedgewood Ballroom is located on the first floor and comes complete with private balcony. It’s characterised by its traditional Wedgewood-blue colour scheme and has a private bar and reception area. Here you can host your ceremony and your celebrations. Alternatively, you can choose The Garden Suite. Overlooking the sea and gardens, it’s complete with dancefloor, function bar and separate lounge. There’s also the option of The Orangery, a bright and airy atrium or The Meads Room, a smaller space ideal for intimate weddings.

Memories to last a lifetime

UK retailer The Perfume Shop reveals sales of home fragrance increased by a whopping 357% month on month following lockdown, as the UK continue to spend more time at home. Not only can fragrance lift your mood at home, but it's also important to consider how fragrances can impact your wedding day. If you have a particular favourite scent, why not have candles or diffusers at the entrance to your wedding venues so that guests can be greeted with a pleasant welcome - and it will evoke memories of your special day for years to come as the sense of smell is closely linked with memory, probably more so than any of our other senses.
