December/January 2022/23

Your Sussex Wedding is 100 and doesn’t it look great for its age? That’s right, well into our 17th year of publishing, we’re celebrating our 100th issue! I’ve been the editor of this wonderful title since issue 75 and feel incredibly proud to have been part of its history.

The first issue hit the shelves in 2006 with a venue focus on Brighton and boy have things changed since then! I managed to find a copy in the archives and dusted it off to find that fashions had more in common with the 1990s than they do the 2020s. Designs were all about taffeta, boned bodices and bags of embellishment – words I hardly hear these days in relation to wedding dresses. What’s more, it was rare indeed to see a groom not sporting a cravat. However, some things don’t change. Then editor Demelza, looking into the world of wedding planning, told readers: “Employing a planner can dramatically reduce the stress that sometimes occurs as a result of organising such a big event. Indeed, being able to speak to someone objectively, with plenty of experience in this field, will not only give you confidence about the running of your big day, but will also give you plenty of ideas and inspiration along the way.” And that’s as true now as it ever was.

Vintage-themed weddings were equally on trend in 2006 and we featured the gorgeous real wedding of Laura and Jerome, where the bride looked every bit the picture-perfect image of Lady Mary, back when Downton Abbey was still a figment of Julian Fellowes’ imagination! Plus, many of the same suppliers were featured that we’re still proud to work with today.

Your Sussex Wedding has been bringing local wedding content to nearlyweds for the best part of two decades, becoming a much-valued go-to source of inspiration and advice for many tying the knot in this gorgeous county. We exist to champion the local and very much hope that we can continue to do so for many moons to come. We’d never have reached this ripe old age (still looking good) without our lovely readers and Sussex’s amazing suppliers who’ve supported us all these years.

A huge thank you to you all. Here’s to the next 100 issues! And as ever, keeeep planning!

Located in the pretty market town of Midhurst and dating back to 1430, this charming black and white Tudor timber-framed inn retains its heritage while providing every contemporary comfort. The original coach house and stables, now joined to the hotel, have become the magnificent Jacobean Hall with natural stone walls, heraldic banners and minstrel gallery. While, the contemporary spa alongside it offers a haven to relax with indoor pool, treatment rooms and relaxation room.

Located in the oldest part of the building, the King Edward VII Suite boasts beamed walls and ceiling as well as an open fireplace. It can accommodate 30 loved ones to witness your vows. Meanwhile, the Jacobean Hall can host up to 100 for the ceremony.

The Jacobean Hall is home to wedding receptions and has its own bar plus double doors leading out onto the Jacobean Garden. There’s space here for 80 guests for the wedding breakfast and up to 100 nearest and dearest for the evening bash. Alternatively, a marquee can be sited in the Jacobean Garden.

Christmas winter wedding music

Christmas winter wedding music

Getting married at Christmas doesn't mean that you have to plan a Christmas-themed wedding. Here, roaming band The Travelling Hands, suggest songs that would work well for a Christmas winter wedding and the songs to avoid! When it comes to music, the same rule applies. Just because you want to get married at Christmas it doesn't mean that your musical playlist has to be full of Wizzard & Cliff Richard if you don't want it to be there. When our acoustic roaming band The Travelling Hands perform at winter weddings we see a wide variety of decisions when it comes to Christmas songs. Some want to embrace the Christmas classics - adding these into their day. Others like a few placed in here and there, whilst some want to just stick to their favourite songs without any Christmas numbers added in at all.
