April/May 2021

So much has happened since last I spoke to you! If you’ll indulge me personally for a moment, I’d love to share my news. I turned 40. Yep, the big 4-0 and it wasn’t as scary as I thought. Despite not being able to celebrate how I’d like thanks to lockdown 3.0, it made me remember to appreciate the more valuable things in the life, such as the love of my friends and family.

Next: I’m going to be a bridesmaid. I’m giddy with excitement! Our dear Melissa Barker, fellow editor here at CWM, popped the question last month asking me if I’d accept this huge honour. I’m thrilled to be making this journey with such a dear friend and I’ll be sharing our learnings every step of the way. Despite being weddingobsessed, I’m sure we’ll make a few mistakes, enabling us to throw up a couple of warning signs for all you planning couples out there.

Finally, of course, something that affects us all: Boris’ roadmap out of this mess. Here at CMW HQ we were thrilled to see a plan back to wedding normality. It’ll be a slow process, but with everyone pulling together and staying safe it should mean we see our beloved weddings and wedding industry back in full force by the end of June. That in itself is cause for celebration.

On that note, let’s take a look at what we’ve got for you this issue as I round up my highlights for you across these two pages. We’re celebrating our 90th issue of Your Sussex Wedding with spring ahead of us – a time of al fresco “I dos,” pastel hues and beautiful blooms and there’s plenty of seasonal fabulousness on every page, so I’ll delay you no longer.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Herstmonceux Castle

This 15th-century castle is the oldest brick building of note still standing in the country and is the stunning centrepiece of a beautiful 300-acre estate. The interior of the castle was the main focus of an extensive restoration project in the early part of the 20th-century and reflects a variety of styles from the Elizabethan Room with its stunning 16thcentury staircase to the more contemporary Conference Room with glorious views over the moat.

To the rear of the Castle are themed and formal gardens that can provide an idyllic backdrop to your newlyweds’ photoshoot. Beyond these are wild meadows, The Folly with its cottage-style walled garden, a lily pond and managed woodland that changes throughout the seasons.

A grand and majestic room, The Ballroom offers views over the Courtyard and out to the Elizabethan Garden – the ideal space to make a lasting impression. It’s a versatile spot and combines a romantic historical setting with all the modern facilities you could wish for. It can play host to both your vows and reception for 150 seated and 180 for the evening. Also available from ceremony to celebrations are the Conference Room (up to 100 guests) and Elizabethan Room (up to 30 guests). Further options for the “I dos,” as well as drinks receptions, are The Cloisters and Courtyard, stunning if the weather is fine.
