Q&A Beauty Look and feel your big-day best with help from the experts THE YEAR OF FLAWLESS SKIN AND SWITCHING IT UP Make-up artist Becky Flynn (www.makeupbybeckyflynn.com) says: Something that looks set to continue throughout 2023 is the focus on skin. Brides are asking for flawless yet natural-looking skin – glowing and glass-like. I’m rarely reaching for matte, full coverage foundations now instead opting for light-weight, luminous foundations or tinted moisturisers. Mixing it with something like Laura Mercier Illuminating Primer is perfect for that extra-hydrated glow. Keeping the skin natural, there’s less contouring instead creating a softer look with blusher. I love layering a few colours to create a more bespoke look. The hydrated look also applies to lips, with more brides opting for a very glossy pout with more of a neutral or nude tone. For the eyes, individual lashes look to be very hot this year with more focus on a fluffy lash and soft liner. I’m seeing less eyeshadow, just a sweep of a warm, matte shade with many brides opting for a glittery, shimmery eye in the evening instead. This brings us to a second look that’s becoming popular, with brides opting for a change of dress, hair and make-up for the evening. Adding a little sparkle is always so much fun and a great way to plan two looks you love. This issue we asked local beauty experts for their top 2023 trend predictions, giving you the jump on the latest looks. This is what they told us... THE YEAR OF MINIMAL MAKE-UP Claire Reed from Beauty Ninjas (www.thebeautyninjas.co.uk) says: I predict that 2023 bridal make-up will see a continuation of the minimal make-up trend. Brides will always want to look beautiful, but I think we’re definitely seeing a backlash against the hard glamour looks we’ve seen a lot of on Instagram. So, this means a glowing complexion with minimal foundation, as opposed to full coverage; and the features will be softly sculpted with bronzer, rather than heavy cream contour. Soft, fluffy and natural brows will be favoured over the bold, crisp pomade style. Meanwhile, cluster lashes will replace bulky strip lashes and eye make-up will be light and shimmery as opposed to heavy and smoky. Pinky shades will be favoured over nude or bold statement lips. “This look is absolutely ideal for brides as it’s classic and timeless. You’ll look and feel like the most beautiful version of yourself and will look back on your photos for years to come without once thinking: “What on earth was that make-up trend about?!” 2023 TRENDS 80
